If Gettysburg public school cancels classes due to 

weather, our Religious Education classes are also cancelled .  Any other cancellation notices will be placed on the BREAKING NEWS section on the Home Page of this website, on our Facebook page facebook.com/sacredhearted and may also be posted on the sign out front of church.  Religious Education News

Classes are on Wednesdays, September 23rd - May 6.

Afternoon classes for grades 1-4 run from 3:45-5 PM; evening classes for grades 5-9 run from 7:00-8:15 PM.  We still NEED substitute teachers to help with both day & evening classes! If you are willing to help out, please contact Roberta Dutenhoeffer at 769-1953.

Weekly Afternoon Classes: please have your child go straight to their classroom, listed below. Face masks, social distancing and hand sanitizing /hygiene is strongly encouraged, and, for the afternoon classes, note that snacks will be served in class rather than in the parish hall this school year. Water bottles may be brought in to class, but no other food is allowed in the classroom without prior permission.

This year we are introducing a brand new student e-learning portal for middle school and high school students to access their weekly assignments, with monthly discussion group meetings currently planned for grades 6-9. The monthly evening classes will be held from 7-8:15 pm on Sept. 23rd, October 14, November 18th and December 16th, then start up again for spring semester on January 6, 2021.  Download the school year schedule here.

Afternoon Classes:

  • 1st grade with Neva Mikkelsen in Room 6 of RE building

  • 2nd grade with Stacey Penrod in Big Basement (old hall)

  • 3rd grade with Gerri Eide in Room 5 of RE building

  • 4th grade with Penny Baus in Old KC room 

Evening Classes:

  • 5th grade with Alex Seurer – weekly class in Room 3 

  • 6th grade meets monthly in the old basement classroom (old KC room) and is taught by parents in rotation.

  • 7th grade with Eric Dutenhoeffer in Hall – monthly discussion group and session review

  • 8th and 9th grade with Steve Davis in Big Basement (old hall) – monthly discussion group
     

Confirmation Class for grades 10th - 12th on alternating Sundays with Father Kopel.

 Volunteers Needed!

If you are able to help teach or substitute teach for our afternoon or evening classes, please let us know!  

The time commitment is  2-3 hours per week and the lesson plans are all laid out for you. Please prayerfully consider volunteering, and contact us at  765-2359 if you are willing to help out.

Safe Environment Training

This year's Safe Environment program is Circle of Grace, to be presented in January and early February, depending on the grade. 

For more information please call 765-2359, or print and return the Opt Out form if you would prefer to present this material to your child at home.

First Holy Communion 

First Holy Communion and First Penance Preparation classes for all 2nd graders desiring to receive their First Holy Communion are scheduled as follows:
 

First Communion Preparation Class:

Gettysburg Hall- Sunday, January 31, 1:30-3 PM

Onida House - Sunday, February 7, 1-2:30 PM

First Penance Preparation Class:

Gettysburg Hall - Sunday, March, 21, 1:30-3 PM

Onida House - Sunday, March 28, 1:30-3 PM

Candidates must attend with at least one parent or guardian. You may attend the meeting at EITHER PARISH.
